Q: How can I register for a course?

A: You may register by contacting our office directly at 845-784-4911, or by clicking the Register button on our website to enroll online.


Q: What are the requirements for the Basic RiderCourse® (BRC)?

A: To participate in the Basic RiderCourse®, you must:

  • Be 16 years of age or older (Participants ages 16–17 must provide notarized parental consent)
  • Possess a current and valid NYS Driver's License
  • Attend and complete all scheduled course hours
  • Successfully pass both the knowledge test and riding skills evaluation

Q: How much does the Basic RiderCourse® cost?

A:

  • $321.00 – Newburgh (Motorcyclepedia Museum)
  • $321.00 – Hudson (Columbia-Greene Community College)

Q: What are the times and dates for the course?

A: Core Curriculum for Basic RiderCourse - 2 days

  • 5-hour MSF eCourse (completed within 30 days of class)
  • 11 hours of on-range riding instruction (divided over 2 days, sometimes 3 days)
  • All components must be completed to receive a Course Completion Card

Other classes are typically one day.


Q: What do I need to bring to class?

A: You must arrive with proper riding gear, including:

  • Over-the-ankle boots (leather recommended)
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • DOT-approved helmet with face shield or shatter-resistant eye protection

In the event of rain, please bring appropriate rain gear.


Q: Does the course take place in all weather conditions?

A: Courses are generally conducted rain or shine, depending on the temperature and conditions. In the event of severe weather (such as thunderstorms or unsafe cold rain), class may be delayed or cancelled. You will be eligible for a full refund or a reschedule.


Q: What are the requirements to pass the course?

A: To complete the course, you must:

  • Attend all scheduled sessions in full
  • Complete your E-Course
  • Pass the motorcycle skills evaluation

Participants must also be able to ride a bicycle and demonstrate recent basic balance and coordination skills.


Q: What if I fail the skills evaluation?

A: If necessary, you have 30 days to re-test the skill evaluation at no additional charge.


Q: Do I receive my motorcycle license at the end of the course?

A: Upon successful completion, you will receive a NYS/MSF Course Completion Card. You must present this card, along with your license and permit, at any NYS DMV office to obtain your motorcycle endorsement.


Q: What motorcycles are used during the course?

A: Training motorcycles may include:

  • Suzuki GZ250
  • Kawasaki BN125
  • Honda Rebel 250
  • Suzuki TU250
  • Royal Enfield 250

Q: Can I use my own motorcycle for the Basic RiderCourse®?

A: If you own a motorcycle and would like to use it during the Basic RiderCourse®, please get in touch with our office directly for details and approval requirements.


Q: How many students are in each class?

A: There is a maximum of 12 students per class on the riding range.


Q: What if I have an out-of-state driver's license or permit?

A: The New York State Motorcycle Safety Program does not determine eligibility for other states. Please check with your home state DMV to confirm whether they accept the MSF course completion card for licensing purposes.


Q: What if I only have a motorcycle permit or a learner's permit?

A: You must have a valid driver's license or learner's permit to take the Basic RiderCourse® in New York State.


Q: I've never ridden a motorcycle before. Which course should I take?

A: The Basic RiderCourse® (BRC) is designed for individuals with little or no riding experience. Some students prefer to begin with a one-on-one introductory or private lesson before enrolling. Motorcycle Training Solutions offers both options. Please call 845-784-4911 for details.
